Through its unique design, the UFT Teacher Center supports high standards for students by promoting the professional growth of teachers and other educators in over 250 school-based sites and numerous outreach locations. UFT Teacher Center staff embed professional development in the daily life of schools by engaging learning communities in: Standards-based classroom learning laboratories. In-class demonstrations, team-teaching and coaching. Collaborative study groups. Research-based, content-rich work sessions and institutes. |

What educators can do at a Teacher Center:
Plan standards-based instruction, lessons, units and projects. Use multi-media equipment to prepare for interdisciplinary teaching. Design a mini-grant proposal to fund an action-research project. Problem-solve classroom management situations. Learn about assessment in standards-based work. Participate in peer support group for new teachers. Use computers and research on-line. Review and borrow professional materials and resources. Join a study group to practice and refine new strategies. Consult with colleagues about day-to-day work. |

The UFT Teacher Center staff acts as a catalyst for instructional change, nurturing learning communities for student achievement through the following services:
Teachers As Learners And Leaders provides educators with opportunities to deepen their content knowledge and develop leadership skills for school-wide change. The Individual Professional Development Program based on teachers helping teachers in one-to- one relationships, enables educators to refine skills and become reflective practitioners. Intervention/Prevention Along The Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) Continuum helps educators to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring that students with disabilities receive access to general education curriculum. Achieving High Standards/Student Focused Restructuring offers the process and content skills and tools needed for school reform. Teaching And Learning With Technology provides a customized approach for integrating technology into teaching and learning. College And In-Service Courses partners with area colleges and universities to offer over 500 college and in-service courses, as well as programs leading to a masters degree. |
