The UFT Teacher Center, now in its 34th year, is a comprehensive professional development program that promotes teacher excellence and academic achievement for all students.

The UFT Teacher Center operates throughout the five boroughs of New York City in some 150 school-based sites and numerous outreach locations.

For the current school year, the UFT Teacher Center will hold a Literacy Network
for K-12 educators. The network, Digging Deeper into Instruction:
Fostering Student Autonomy in Reading and Writing, (link to our network, conference, seminar page) will enable participants to learn to: Differentiate instruction to scaffold student learning.
Develop strategies for monitoring and constructing meaning that synthesize and extend comprehension.
Design checklists and rubrics to inform practice.

Drawing on current research and best practices, The UFT Teacher Center's [literacy based] professional development activities for educators that are designed to deepen content knowledge and enhance pedagogical skill. In addition to this Literacy Network, the UFT Teacher Center offers a wide range of activities which include intensive in-classroom support, after-school study groups, as well as college and in-service courses.
