The UFT Teacher Center supports educators of learners with special needs through borough professional development opportunities, including summer institutes and Teacher Center site-based support. Additionally, each year UFT Teacher Center citywide special education seminars provide educators who teach students with disabilities—in both self-contained and general education classrooms—with opportunities to learn about the nature and needs of their students. Each seminar provides participants with an in-depth look at one aspect of learning disabilities and an understanding of the impact on students’ learning, behavior and social skills. Participants learn and practice instructional strategies that are designed to support the specific needs of their students.
